Automatic Wear Detection

Overview

The Automatic Wear Detection brings smart, affordable wear monitoring to industrial barrel roller couplings. Positioned between the basic mechanical wear indicator and the fully digital LifeMonitor, it offers a proven, sturdy and cost-effective solution that reliably signals wear without the need for constant manual inspection.

With optional integration across coupling sizes 6 to 62 and a built-in signal output, it provides clear, automated feedback that supports timely maintenance decisions.

Upgrade your coupling monitoring with a practical step toward automation – simple, robust, and retrofittable.

  • Ensures end-of-life of coupling is detected
  • Allows for enough time to change coupling
  • Reduces required wear inspection intervals on couplings
  • Clarity on coupling status: worn / not worn

How It Works

Mechanical Trigger releases Wear Alert

The Automatic Wear Detection monitors wear by using a proximity switch. As the coupling wears over time, the mechanical wear indicator attached on the hub and a trigger attached on the housing approach each other gradually. Once this movement reaches a predefined threshold, the trigger releases the wear indicator pin, which changes positions. The proximity switch detects this change in position. The signal it sends changes from “not worn” to “worn”.

This simple yet effective design strongly reduces the need for visual or tactile inspection and enables clear remote status monitoring through standard interface signals to your PLC. With retrofit capability across coupling sizes 6 to 62, the Automatic Wear Detection provides a practical step toward automated maintenance without the complexity of continuous data systems.
