Overview
For heavy-duty barrel roller couplings, safety and reliability depend on a clear understanding of the coupling’s wear condition over time. Reliable insight into wear supports early detection and informed maintenance planning. The MALMEDIE® Wear Indicator enables fast visual wear checks directly on the coupling, without disassembly and without special tools.
Every MALMEDIE® drum coupling comes equipped with a mechanical Wear Indicator as a standard feature. A grooved pointer moves relative to a recessed wear notch as the coupling wears over time. Once the groove reaches the end of the notch, the maximum permissible wear is reached and the coupling must be replaced. For bidirectional load applications, this limit is halved, as wear develops in two directions. Other rope drum connection technologies don’t allow for the same degree of wear control, whereas some solutions need to be completely disassembled to control wear status.
This simple, robust design supports predictive maintenance strategies and makes wear status assessable in seconds – a core part of lifecycle monitoring on every Malmedie drum coupling.
