      Foundation of the „Malmedie & Cie. Maschinenfabrik“ by Johann Josef Malmedie and Karl August Schmitz. Production of cold moulding presses and wire drawing machines with 25 employees in Düsseldorf-Oberbilk.

      17.08.1899: MALMEDIE® becomes a stock corporation

      Transformation of “Malmedie & Cie. Maschinenfabrik” in a stock corporation (Malmedie & Co. AG)

      Production of machines for wire processing and draw benches for steel bars and pipes with 1200 employees.

      Start of the coupling production under licence of the British Bibby-Coupling.

      Start of coupling production

      First under licence of the British “Bibby” coupling and soon with own designs, e.g. for Gear Couplings

      In the course of the world economic crisis, the Kieserling brothers of Solingen became the new owners. The staff was reduced drastically and the company was moved to the „Königsberger Str.“ in Düsseldorf. Special draw benches following US licences and special couplings were added to the product portfolio.

      The majority of the office and manufacturing buildings were destroyed due to the war.

      MALMEDIE® gets the production permission.

      Transformation of the „Malmedie & Co Maschinenfabrik“ from a stock company to a Pvt. Ltd. company.

      Drum Couplings

      Development and launch of the barrel-type coupling as a connection between gearbox and ropedrums – a global standard today!

      1972

      The „Malmedie & Co Maschinenfabrik GmbH“ becomes an enterprise of the „Rheinmetall“ group. MALMEDIE® produces with more than 500 employees tranfer presses and fully automatic machines for massive forming, ball- and roll presses, draw benches for wires and pipes, level- and cutting machines as well as mechanical couplings for power transmission applications. 50% of the products where exportet.

      Foundation of the „M.A.T. Malmedie Antriebstechnik GmbH“ by taking over the complete coupling production of the „Malmedie & Co Maschinenfabrik“.

      Establishment of M.A.T. Malmedie Antriebstechnik GmbH
      … and take-over of the complete coupling production of the „Malmedie & Co Maschinenfabrik“. Manufacturing of machines under the brand name “MALMEDIE®” stopped.

      SOS snag overload system for container cranes

      A MALMEDIE® mechanical Safety Couplings separates within milliseconds motor and gearbox in case of snag overloads on STS container canes. The SOS snag overload system is the first non-hydraulic snag load protection system.

      With more than 30 national and international patents and patent applications, MALMEDIE® develops itself to one of the most innovative companies in the field of coupling technology.

      MALMEDIE® goes USA

      Since early 2016, our US customers can place inquiries and orders in a very convenient way through our newly established subsidiary MALMEDIE INC. in Allentwon / Pennsylvania.

      M.A.T. Malmedie Antriebstechnik GmbH develops, manufactures and distributes in Solingen Gear Couplings, Drum Couplings and Safety Couplings mainly for the steel industry, the crane industry, the mining industry and general heavy equipment applications. About 65% of the products are export business.
