Two exciting trade fairs took place at the same time in mid-June – and MALMEDIE® took part in both. The long-standing manufacturer of mechanical couplings for industrial applications within the harbour, steel, mining and heavy machinery segment was not only a guest at METEC in Düsseldorf, but also at TOC Europe in Rotterdam with parts of its product portfolio.
TOC Europe is one of the world’s largest annual trade fairs and conferences for port, ship and terminal technology and takes place at various locations around Europe. From 13 to 15 June 2023 in Rotterdam, it offered insights into the challenges and trends of the respective regions. Trade visitors were able to gain an overview of innovative solutions and devices – such as the “EvoTorque” prototype exhibited by MALMEDIE®, which was presented to the public for the first time in Rotterdam. The prototype is part of the new safety coupling used in container cranes to protect against entrapment.
MALMEDIE® presents energy savings with “EvoTorque”
Thanks to the new safety coupling, the energy savings for terminal operators are considerable: compared to previous designs, the Evolution Torque Safety Coupling for the Snag Overload System can reduce inertia of this technology by more than 45% and mass by about 20%. Acceleration and deceleration of inertia are proportional to power consumption in drivetrains. Safety coupling are accelerated to top speed and decelerated to a full stop twice for each container being moved. Energy savings are thus significant.
Dr. André Voßnacke, head of technology at MALMEDIE®: “We looked at aviation to inspire our lightweight designs. We challenged our assumptions on what customers value and the team is proud of the result.” Rightly so,” EvoTorque” also attracted a lot of interest among visitors in Rotterdam.
Gear spindles in Düsseldorf
Interest in the MALMEDIE® booth was not only high in Rotterdam, but also at METEC in Düsseldorf. METEC is the world’s leading trade fair for metallurgical technology and consistently focuses on reflecting on challenges in order to recognize the demands of the future. Leading international experts from the metallurgy industry meet here to exchange ideas and experiences.
From 12 to 16 June, a good 63,300 visitors from 114 countries came together at the world’s leading trade fairs GIFA, METEC, THERMPROCESS and NEWCAST. Around 2,200 exhibitors from 56 countries showcased the power of the metallurgical industry with their machines, systems and solutions and set trendsetting impulses. MALMEDIE® presented geared spindles as part of its product portfolio at its stand.
Overall, TOC Europe and METEC were a great success, as MALMEDIE® was able to refresh old contacts and initiate new business. The MALMEDIE® team welcomed many guests, business partners, and friends to its booths and is grateful for the good conversations that took place in Rotterdam and Düsseldorf.
